By analysing the heating characteristics of the Yangtze River Basin in winter, calculates the hourly heating loads of a residential building in Chongqing under continuous and intermittent heating modes by using the building environment dynamic load analysis software DeST-h, and analyses the load distribution characteristics of the two heating modes. The continuous heating load is low, with small fluctuations, and has a negative correlation with outdoor air temperature. While the intermittent heating load fluctuates greatly, and the heating load is large at the beginning and then rapidly decreases and stabilizes. Analyses the influence of load characteristics on the selection and operation adjustment of air-source heat pump units in residential buildings in the Yangtze River Basin. The results show that the heating capacity under the nominal working condition of the unit selected according to the summer cooling conditions can meet the maximum heating load demand of continuous heating and the intermittent heating load demand in the stable stage. The partial load rates under continuous heating conditions are mainly distributed between 25% and 75%, so the operation can be adjusted by the number of fixed-capacity compressors. While the partial load rates under intermittent heating conditions are mainly distributed between 50% and 100%, it is recommended to adopt the adjustment method of variable capacity.
